Title: Prodigal Son

Cross country
race dust filtered his breathing,
teeth browned and chalky.

Father clapped for him, yelled.

Later, father told son
that he used to run track
back in high school.

Son thought of the difference
between a track and open land,
and how a track is nothing more
than circular logic.
